Our Program

At Oceanic Gymnastics Centre we believe that a child must have fun and truly enjoy what he or she is doing to learn successfully.

Our instructors are trained and registered with Gymnastics Australia and provide an enthusiastic teaching environment in which each child learns and develops at their own rate. All classes are age based and coincide with the NSW school calendar and term dates. Children who have a birthday throughout the term remain in their current class for the remainder of the term. They are eligible to move to the next class for the following term.

Jellyfish Program

Minimum age is 1 year and walking, but recommended age is from 1 year and 6 months.

Once your baby is walking, he or she is a busy little person. This is an important time developmentally for your toddler with significant changes physically, socially and emotionally. Your toddler is curious about everything and is keen to play, experiment and explore. Our classes are structured in terms of the group needing to stay all together in a certain area but allow for children to explore the stations as they please. There is a suggested circuit which is explained at the beginning of each apparatus however if a child only wants to do 2 or 3 of the activities and repeat them it is not a problem. You will notice as your child gets older, and continues to attend classes, they start to attempt more of the activities.

Moving helps your child build muscle strength for more complex movements like standing, walking and running. They are also developing an understanding of how their bodies move in space (proprioception), a key building block for mastering movement. If you are present while your child explores, it helps them feel safe and builds their self-confidence.

Our Jellyfish class is a 30 minute parent assisted program where an adult is expected to actively participate with their child. This class is not like a Baby class with everyone sitting in a circle. Your child will be balancing on the beams, swinging and climbing on the bars and rolling and practicing Hand-eye coordination activities on floor.  It is a fast paced class with exactly the same stations as the Starfish class, just with less time spent in each area due to the attention span of this age group. The Jellyfish Class has a maximum of 8 children per instructor. The cost is $10 per class, paid upfront for the term. Children are welcome to continue in this class until they are 2 years and 6 months, however can choose to move up at 2 years and 3 months.

Starfish Program

Minimum age is 2 Years and 3 months and children must have reached the minimum age by the first day of the current term. Recommended age is 2 years and 6 months.

At the younger stage of this class your toddler is becoming more confident on their feet and can most likely run. They will now be better at throwing, kicking and catching a ball, and might even stand on one foot for a few seconds. Around this time, your child is keen to do more things for themselves however if you are around while your child explores, they feel reassured and safe. This helps your child to build the confidence to try new things and attempt activities on their own.

At the older stage of this class, parents help prepare their child for the Pre-Oceanic Class, by encouraging their child to listen and watch the circuit explanation, choose an activity to start, remember what skill is being done at each station and then follow the direction of the circuit by looking for the arrows. Parents are there to keep their child on track, correct as needed, help with the challenging skills or technical corrections and to be nearby to catch them if they fall.

It is also great bonding time for parent and child, to have one on one attention whilst having fun together.

Our Starfish program is a great way for your child to make friends and learn how to be with other children. There will be plenty of opportunities to learn about sharing and taking turns. This 45 minute class is a parent assisted program where an adult is expected to actively participate with their child whilst encouraging them to develop more independence. This class has a maximum of 8 children per instructor. The cost is $15.50 per class, paid upfront for the term. Children are welcome to continue in this class until they are 4 years old, however can choose to move up at 3 years and 9 months based on readiness.

Pre-Oceanic Program

Minimum age is 3 Years and 9 months and children must have reached the minimum age by the first day of the current term. Recommended age is 4 years.

Children this age hopefully love moving and being active. They are better at throwing, catching and kicking a ball, running, climbing, jumping, hopping and balancing on one foot. Your child might also develop some new gross motor skills for example, skipping, jumping backwards or jumping while running and their movements are becoming more coordinated.

Our Pre-Oceanic Program is a 45 minute class where children attend without the assistance of their parents. This allows for your child to develop greater independence and improves socialisation skills. This class introduces more gymnastics based skills and encourages children to try new activities by themselves whilst focusing on the correct pattern or sequence that the skill requires. Children must be able to go to the bathroom by themselves and ideally will be able to listen and follow instructions and comprehend the direction of the circuit by following the arrows. They should be confident walking on the beams independently and should be able to do most activities unassisted. Pre-Oceanic circuits are the same as the Junior Circuits, just on a smaller scale. Pre-Oceanic classes use our mini bar stations instead of the full size ones, which are perfect for reducing fear and learning skills before taking skills up to the higher bars. This class prepares children for our Oceanic Program has a maximum of 8 children per instructor. Classes are available in the mornings and after school and the cost is $15.50 per class, paid upfront for the term.

Children remain in this class until the term after they turn 5 years and 6 months.
